While everyone else was sleeping, designer Rory Beca has been making a living creating great clothes for the modern girl. But with a thriving business and two young children, you might imagine she barely has time for our favorite activity. We caught up with Rory last week for a little pillow talk and a look inside the (night) life of one of our favorite California girls.
So Rory, let's get right down to the good stuff. What’s on your bed?
I have a few sets of bedding, but my favorite is my Frette shimmered stripe set. I have a TempurPedic mattress and pillows from Scandia down. And every night I sleep with my Barefoot Dreams cozy chic blanket.
Any nightstand essentials?
Picture of my husband and I on our wedding day (I know, cliché), a dream doll, Dior candle, incense matches, Japanese ring holder, French art books from Galerie Maeght, and a crystal (always a crystal, because I love the energy it brings).
Tell us a little about your routine as you get ready for bed.
Usually I’ll have a glass of wine [ed note: STARS! They're just like us!] and my show of choice (Scandal, Shameless, Episodes, etc.). I’ll wash my face with Hydropeptide cleansing gel followed by their moisturizer. If I am not too tired then I read a little, and I always spray This Works sleep spray on my pillow.
Bedtime stories: book, magazine, or iPad?
I try to do a book a month, so I’ll read a little before bed, or I’ll read Vanity Fair or Martha Stewart.
Morning person or a night owl?
Both! But I love my sleep and have two kids, so if I can sleep in I will.
Lights out! What time do you go to sleep?
I go to sleep around 10:30. I have a four month old so I’m still getting up to feed her. But if I’m not feeding her, I am in a deep sleep.
And finally, what’s your favorite sleep position?
I fall asleep on my back but I end up on my side.
